Sector focus

Industrial HVAC contracting — what it covers beyond the equipment

An equipment manufacturer sells a machine with a rated capacity. An HVAC contractor is answerable for a condition inside your building — a temperature, a humidity band, an air-change rate, a pressure difference — and for the fact that it still holds on a July afternoon with the plant running. On an industrial building those two things are further apart than they are anywhere else, because the load is set by the process rather than by the envelope. A shop floor with induction furnaces, a coating line venting solvent, a cleanroom holding ISO class and a warehouse that simply must not cook its stock are four different engineering problems that all arrive described as "HVAC".

Heavy manufacturing and shop floors
The problem is usually heat removal and air change, not comfort cooling. Process equipment is counted into the load as a heat source, extraction is taken at the point where the heat or fume is generated rather than from the room as a whole, and the discharge is placed so it cannot be drawn back in through the intake. Cooling the whole volume of a shed to an office set point is the expensive answer to a question nobody asked.
Cleanrooms, pharma and electronics
The classification drives everything: ISO class or GMP grade, the pressure cascade between rooms, the temperature and humidity bands, the air-change rate and the filtration chain through terminal HEPA. The room is not finished when it is installed — it is finished when air balancing, filter-integrity testing, particle counts and pressure-differential tests are recorded and handed over as validation documents.
Process cooling and dehumidification
Where the process, not the people, sets the condition — precision units for equipment rooms, desiccant dehumidification where the humidity band is tighter than cooling alone can hold, and chilled water taken to the machine rather than to the room.
Ventilation, pressurisation and exhaust
Fresh air for occupancy, staircase and lift-lobby pressurisation for smoke control under NBC 2016, car-park ventilation with CO sensing and a smoke mode, and kitchen and process exhaust. These are tested as a cause-and-effect with the fire-alarm interface in place, and the readings form part of the Fire NOC submission — which is why the ventilation scope belongs with the fire scope, not after it.
Redundancy and continuity
A production line that stops when a chiller trips is a commercial problem, not a mechanical one. N+1 on chillers or dual AHUs on critical areas is a decision taken at design stage against the cost of an hour of downtime, and it changes the plant room before the concrete is poured.

The proof in every case is the same and it is not a delivery note. It is testing, adjusting and balancing — measured air and water quantities recorded against the design values, with the building enclosed and close to design conditions. A system that has not been balanced has not been demonstrated to do anything.

How do you size an HVAC system for a building in India?

We run a full heat-load study (ISHRAE/ASHRAE 62.1) accounting for area, occupancy, glazing, orientation, equipment heat and the local climate zone, then select the right system — VRF, ductable or chilled-water plant. You can get a quick estimate from our free AC tonnage calculator, but the final design always comes from an engineered heat-load survey.

Should I choose VRF or a chilled-water (chiller) plant?

Use VRF for zoned comfort in offices, showrooms, hotels and clinics where loads vary by area and you want no plant room. Choose a chilled-water plant above roughly 50 TR of central cooling — malls, hospitals, hotels and factories — where a high-IPLV plant with VFD pumping cuts running cost 20–30%. We size both from your actual load and tell you which pays back faster.
