Things worth knowing before you apply
- Applies to grid-connected rooftop systems on residential premises only — not commercial or industrial connections.
- The subsidy is disbursed to your bank account after installation and inspection, not deducted from the quoted price up front.
- Some states add their own subsidy on top of the central amount. That varies by state and by year.
- Registration runs through the national portal, and the installation must be done by a registered vendor for the subsidy to be released.

Bill and roof check
We look at twelve months of bills and your usable, shadow-free roof area. Those two together decide the size — not a guess from your floor plan.

Portal registration
PM Surya Ghar registration and the DISCOM application, filed for you. The subsidy depends on this being done correctly and by a registered vendor.

Design and approval
Layout, structure specification and the DISCOM technical feasibility approval before anything is ordered.

Installation
Structure, modules, inverter, cabling and earthing. Typically two to four days on site for a home system.

Net meter and inspection
Bi-directional meter installation, DISCOM inspection and grid synchronisation.

Subsidy disbursal
Once inspection clears, the subsidy claim goes through the portal and is credited to your bank account.

PM Surya Ghar — common questions
How much subsidy do I get under PM Surya Ghar?
The nationally published structure is ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and ₹18,000 for the third kW, capping at ₹78,000. So 1 kW attracts ₹30,000, 2 kW attracts ₹60,000, and 3 kW or larger attracts ₹78,000 — the cap does not rise beyond 3 kW. Several states add their own subsidy on top. Rates are set by government order and change, so confirm on pmsuryaghar.gov.in before committing.
When is the subsidy actually paid?
After installation and after the DISCOM inspection clears — it is credited to your bank account, not deducted from the price up front. You fund the full system cost first. Treat any installer offering to 'adjust the subsidy' in the quoted price with caution: they are asking you to trust them with a disbursal they do not control.
Who qualifies for PM Surya Ghar?
Residential consumers with a valid electricity connection and a roof they have rights over. The system must be grid-connected, on a residential connection, and installed by a vendor registered on the portal. Commercial and industrial connections are not covered by this scheme.
Is 3 kW the best size for the subsidy?
For most homes, yes. 3 kW is exactly where the ₹78,000 cap is reached, so it extracts the maximum central subsidy. Every kW above 3 is entirely self-funded, which lengthens payback. A larger system can still be right if your consumption genuinely justifies it — but it should be your decision, not an upsell.
Can I claim the subsidy if I have already installed solar?
The scheme is structured around registering before installation and using a registered vendor, so a system already installed outside that process generally will not qualify. Check the portal for your specific situation before assuming either way.
Do I need to register on the portal myself?
Registration happens on the national portal and is part of the process either way. We file it for you as part of the job, along with the DISCOM net-metering application — but the account is in your name and the disbursal comes to your bank account.
