PM Surya Ghar Subsidy

The PM Surya Ghar subsidy is the central assistance for grid-connected residential rooftop solar — ₹30,000 per kW up to 2 kW plus ₹18,000 for the third kW, capping at ₹78,000 — paid to the householder's account after installation and inspection.

Why it matters on an MEPF project

For homes, the slabs reshape economics: 2 kW captures the richest per-kW assistance, 3 kW reaches the cap, and every kW beyond is fully self-funded — which is why 3 kW is the natural stopping point unless consumption genuinely justifies more. The route matters as much as the rate: national-portal registration, DISCOM process, and installation by registered vendors are conditions of disbursement, and the money follows inspection, not the quotation.

The boundary matters for our industrial readers: the scheme covers residential connections only — factories, shops and institutions receive ₹0 under it, and their economics stand on tariff offset, depreciation and metering regimes instead. Rates are set by government order and revisable; the portal is the living authority (our figures verified against it in Aug 2026).

Common mistakes

  • Expecting the subsidy as an upfront price cut — it reimburses post-inspection.
  • Buying beyond 3 kW "for the subsidy" the cap does not extend.
  • Unregistered-vendor installs that void disbursement.
  • Applying scheme arithmetic to a shop or factory connection.

Frequently asked

How much subsidy for a 5 kW home system?

₹78,000 — the cap reached at 3 kW; the additional 2 kW is self-funded. Our subsidy calculator shows the slab-wise working instantly.

Does my factory get PM Surya Ghar benefits?

No — residential connections only. C&I economics run on tariff offset, accelerated depreciation and your state's metering regime, which are typically stronger anyway at scale.
