Questions engineers and CFOs ask

How much subsidy do I get under PM Surya Ghar?

The nationally published structure is ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and ₹18,000 for the third kW, capping at ₹78,000 for 3 kW and above. So 1 kW attracts ₹30,000, 2 kW attracts ₹60,000 and 3 kW or larger attracts ₹78,000. Rates are set by government order and can change — confirm the current position on pmsuryaghar.gov.in before you commit.

Does my factory or shop get this subsidy?

No. PM Surya Ghar applies to grid-connected rooftop systems on residential electricity connections only — commercial and industrial connections get ₹0 under this scheme. For a business the economics run instead on the tariff you avoid, accelerated depreciation and GST input credit, which together are usually worth more than the residential subsidy anyway.

When and how is the subsidy paid?

It is disbursed to your bank account after installation and inspection — it is not deducted from the installer's quoted price up front. You pay the full system price first, register through the national portal, and the central subsidy follows once the installation is inspected and approved. Only installations by registered vendors qualify.

Is a bigger system always better for the subsidy?

No — the subsidy caps at ₹78,000, which 3 kW already reaches. Every kW beyond 3 is entirely self-funded, so 3 kW is the natural stopping point for most homes. 2 kW is actually the best subsidy-per-rupee point, since both kW attract the full ₹30,000 rate. Go larger only when your consumption genuinely justifies it.
