Hydro-Pneumatic System

A hydro-pneumatic system supplies water at constant pressure using a variable-speed pump set working with a pressure vessel: pumps modulate to demand, the vessel absorbs small draws and cycling, and every floor sees design pressure regardless of height.

Why it matters on an MEPF project

Gravity systems give each floor whatever height dictates — feeble on top, harsh below. Hydro-pneumatics decouple pressure from geometry: set the pressure, zone the tall building, and the VFD pumps track demand from a trickle to peak. The trade is dependence on power and machinery — so standby pumps, honest DG backing, and vessel pre-charge maintenance are part of the design, not accessories.

Selection is a duty-curve exercise: peak flow from fixture-unit analysis, pressure from the zone's worst case, vessel sized to stop short-cycling at small draws. In towers it pairs with pressure zoning and PRVs; in factories it quietly serves process and washdown lines where steady pressure is productivity.

  • Pre-charge never checked; the vessel becomes a water-filled ornament.
