Uttar Pradesh rooftop solar: net-metering & approvals

Who approves what, in what order, and where files actually stall — for C&I rooftop solar in Uttar Pradesh. Written by the team that files these applications.

Net-metering authority

Five licensees by district — PVVNL (west, incl. Noida/Ghaziabad), MVVNL (Lucknow/Bareilly), DVVNL (Agra/Bundelkhand), PuVVNL (Purvanchal) and KESCO (Kanpur city)

Electrical safety approval

Chief Electrical Inspector to Government of UP

The approval route, in order

  1. 1

    Feasibility & sanctioned-load check

Confirm your connection can carry the plant. PVVNL / MVVNL / DVVNL / PuVVNL caps rooftop capacity against sanctioned load in most cases, and the exact measure varies — we check the current rule for your connection rather than assume.

  2. 2

    Net-metering application

Filed with PVVNL / MVVNL / DVVNL / PuVVNL, with the load study, single-line diagram and site details. Incomplete drawings are the single most common cause of a file sitting still.

  3. 3

    Technical feasibility approval

PVVNL / MVVNL / DVVNL / PuVVNL assesses transformer headroom and the feeder. A refusal here is usually about the network, not your roof — and often solvable with a design change.

  4. 4

    Installation & CEIG approval

Chief Electrical Inspector to Government of UP inspects and approves the installation. Drawings, test reports and the inspection itself are coordinated by our team.

  5. 5

    Bi-directional meter & synchronisation

Meter installed, agreement executed, plant synchronised. Export begins once the meter is in and the agreement is countersigned.

Caps, banking terms and subsidy positions are set by state policy and revised periodically. We deliberately do not publish a figures table that would go stale — we confirm the rule that applies to your connection at feasibility stage, in writing.

Statutory approvals

DISCOM Net-Metering & CEIG Applications Prepared and Filed In-House.

Approvals are our core trade as an MEPF contractor. We run Uttar Pradesh net-metering and CEIG filings ourselves — you sign, we file, we follow up.

  1. 1

    Feasibility & application

Load study, single-line diagram and the net-metering application prepared and filed.

  2. 2

    CEIG / Electrical Inspector

Drawings, test reports and the inspection itself — coordinated and attended by our team.

  3. 3

    Synchronisation & meter

Bi-directional meter, DISCOM sign-off and grid synchronisation, through to commissioning.

Uttar Pradesh net-metering questions

Who approves rooftop solar net-metering in Uttar Pradesh?

Five licensees by district — PVVNL (west, incl. Noida/Ghaziabad), MVVNL (Lucknow/Bareilly), DVVNL (Agra/Bundelkhand), PuVVNL (Purvanchal) and KESCO (Kanpur city) handles the net-metering application, technical feasibility and the bi-directional meter. Chief Electrical Inspector to Government of UP handles the electrical safety approval for the installation. They are separate approvals with separate timelines, and both are required before you can export.

Is there a cap on how much solar I can install in Uttar Pradesh?

Most DISCOMs cap rooftop net-metering relative to your sanctioned load or contract demand, and the measure used — kW against kWp, AC against DC — differs by state and is revised periodically. Rather than quote a number that may be out of date by the time you read it, we check the rule that currently applies to your connection and tell you whether a load enhancement is worth filing alongside. Our free sanctioned-load checker gives an indicative answer in seconds.

How long do the approvals take?

It depends on the DISCOM, the completeness of the file and whether the feeder has headroom. Our published guide on net-metering delays in UP, Punjab and Haryana is written from filings we have actually run, and describes where files stall in practice rather than what the timeline says on paper.

Do you handle the paperwork or do I?

We do, in-house — the net-metering application, the CEIG approval and synchronisation. Approvals are our core trade as an MEPF contractor, not something we sub out.
