DCR Modules
DCR modules satisfy Domestic Content Requirement conditions — the solar cells and modules are manufactured in India — a compliance category demanded by specified government schemes and procurements, over and above ALMM listing.
Why it matters on an MEPF project
DCR is a procurement-eligibility question with a price tag: schemes that mandate it (notably subsidy-linked residential programmes and various government procurements) will not disburse against non-DCR hardware, and DCR supply commands a premium and a queue. Projects discovering DCR obligations after ordering commodity modules discover them expensively.
DCR and ALMM answer different questions — ALMM lists approved models (a general bankability/eligibility gate for most grid-connected use), DCR certifies domestic manufacture of cell and module. A module can be ALMM-listed but not DCR; scheme paperwork decides which combination your project must buy, and supplier declarations deserve verification against certificates, not brochures.
How it's specified in practice
| Parameter | Typical / working position | Governing reference |
|---|---|---|
| What it certifies | DCR: made-in-India cell+module · ALMM: enlisted approved models | MNRE frameworks |
| Where mandatory | DCR: specified schemes/procurements · ALMM: broadly for grid-connected projects | scheme documents / MNRE orders |
| Price effect | DCR premium over commodity supply | market reality |
| Verification | Certificates traceable to manufacturer + scheme audit | documentation |
Common mistakes
- Assuming ALMM listing implies DCR — it does not.
- Locking subsidy expectations before locking DCR supply.
- Accepting "DCR available" verbally with no certificate trail.
- Ignoring lead times DCR queues add to schedules.

Frequently asked
Does my factory rooftop need DCR modules?
Ordinary C&I net-metered plants generally need ALMM-listed modules, not DCR — DCR attaches to specified schemes (e.g., subsidy-linked programmes). Your scheme paperwork is the authority; we verify it per project.
Why are DCR modules costlier?
Domestic cell capacity is the constrained input; mandated demand meets limited supply. The premium is a scheme-compliance cost, priced into scheme economics.
