CEIG approval for factories in Rajasthan

Rajasthan runs two things at industrial scale that both land on the electrical inspectorate’s desk: the manufacturing corridor along the NCR border — Bhiwadi, Neemrana, Alwar, Kotputli — and one of India’s largest concentrations of captive and open-access solar. If your installation takes HT supply, builds a substation, runs DG sets or exports solar at high tension, approval runs through the Electrical Inspectorate Department, Government of Rajasthan.

This page covers what is specific to Rajasthan. The multi-state CEIG guide covers the drawing content, testing and defect list common to every state.

Who issues it, and under what law

One honest caveat on the portal. Rajasthan has moved departmental services between systems over time, and we do not publish a filing URL we cannot stand behind. Confirm the current route with the Energy Department before you file — and treat any third-party page listing fees and timelines as a starting point to verify, not a source.

Solar makes Rajasthan different

In most states the CEIG file is a factory question. In Rajasthan it is very often a generation question too. The state’s irradiance and land availability have made it a centre for captive plants, group captive structures and open-access supply, and the inspectorate sees a correspondingly high volume of HT-interfacing solar.

Two practical consequences follow. First, the protection and interconnection scheme carries more weight in the submission than it does on a plain factory file — the utility will witness the settings, so the drawings need to state them rather than gesture at them. Second, the CEIG file and the commercial arrangement move together: if you are evaluating open access against a rooftop captive plant, our comparison of open access versus rooftop captive for industrial users sets out how the two differ before the approval question even arises.

Where CEIG sits in your programme

  1. DISCOM sanction first — JVVNL in the Jaipur and Alwar belt.
  2. Drawing approval — before the substation is built.
  3. Installation and testing by a licensed electrical contractor, records kept as you go.
  4. Inspection and clearance against approved drawings.
  5. Energisation by the DISCOM.
  6. Periodic inspection thereafter.

What actually stalls a Rajasthan file

The documentary failures repeat everywhere, and Rajasthan is no exception:

  • An SLD showing connectivity only, without protection ratings and settings — discrimination cannot be assessed, so the file cannot clear.
  • Earthing shown as a note rather than a designed grid, with no measured values recorded pit by pit.
  • Drawings inconsistent with the sanctioned load.
  • A site that has moved past its approved drawings — inspection is against what is installed.

Our guide on what the inspectorate checks on DG sets covers the integration scrutiny in detail.

What we do

We prepare and file the drawing submission, carry the queries, keep test records inspection-ready and sequence the JVVNL interface — including the protection settings the utility will witness — under CEIG liaison and energisation support. The CEIG readiness checker runs the pre-filing list.

Frequently asked questions

Who issues CEIG approval in Rajasthan?

The Electrical Inspectorate Department, Government of Rajasthan, which sits under the state Energy Department. The Electrical Inspector is a statutory appointment under Section 162 of the Electricity Act, 2003, and safety requirements follow the Central Electricity Authority regulations made under that Act.

Where do I apply for CEIG approval in Rajasthan?

The Energy Department publishes the electrical inspectorate section at energy.rajasthan.gov.in. Because the state has moved services between portals over time, confirm the current filing route and document list with the department before submitting rather than relying on a third-party page.

Which DISCOM serves the Alwar and Jaipur industrial belt?

JVVNL — Jaipur Vidyut Vitran Nigam — covers the Jaipur and Alwar belt, including the Bhiwadi and Neemrana corridor that draws most NCR-adjacent manufacturing. The inspectorate process is statewide; the sanction and energisation counterparty depends on location.

Does a RIICO plot change the CEIG process?

No — the electrical approval runs through the state inspectorate regardless of the plot authority. RIICO handles the industrial estate layer, including allotment and estate infrastructure, and that process shares your programme without changing the inspectorate file.

Do solar plants in Rajasthan need CEIG approval?

Where the installation interfaces at high tension or otherwise falls within the inspectorate ambit, yes — and Rajasthan carries a high concentration of captive and open-access solar, so this comes up more often here than in most states. Whether a specific plant is in scope depends on voltage and current thresholds, which belong in the design decision.

What does CEIG approval cost in Rajasthan?

Fees are set by the state, scale with the installation and are revised periodically. Confirm the current schedule with the Electrical Inspectorate Department rather than budgeting from a published figure elsewhere.
