How is industrial solar different from commercial rooftop solar?
Scale and integration. An industrial plant is usually HT-connected with a dedicated transformer, runs large motor loads with VFDs, and often has DG backup that must never back-feed the solar plant. Industrial solar is an electrical-integration project first and a panel installation second — protection coordination, synchronisation logic and power quality decide whether the plant performs, not module wattage.
Can solar run alongside our DG sets?
Yes, but only with deliberate engineering. Solar inverters must derate or trip when the plant islands onto DG power, or the DG can be damaged and the inverters will hunt. We design the changeover logic, reverse-power protection and minimum-DG-loading controls as part of the EPC scope — the same discipline covered in our factory microgrid guide.
Does solar affect our power factor or harmonics?
It can. Solar inverters displace active power drawn from the grid, which changes the reactive share your APFC panel sees, and inverter switching adds harmonic content that matters on plants already running many VFDs. We audit PF and harmonics as part of design so your electricity bill's PF incentive doesn't quietly disappear after commissioning.
What approvals does an industrial solar plant need?
Net-metering or captive registration with your DISCOM, CEIG (Chief Electrical Inspector) approval for the installation, and synchronisation permission. Because we already take CEIG and DISCOM approvals for complete factories as an MEPF contractor, these are in-house filings for us, not a subcontracted liaison job.
Rooftop captive or open access — which suits an industrial consumer?
Rooftop captive suits most plants up to a few MW of demand: no wheeling charges, generation consumed where it's produced. Open access starts making sense for very large consumers in states with favourable banking and cross-subsidy rules.
