Drafting aid, not a stamped design. Every specification below is a starting point for your tender. Project-specific design values must be confirmed by a licensed engineer against the current code editions and the local authority before issue.

PV Modules

  • IS 14286 — Crystalline Silicon Terrestrial PV Modules — Design Qualification & Type Approval (current ed. Part 1/Sec 1:2023, aligned to IEC 61215-1-1)
  • IEC 61730 — Photovoltaic (PV) Module Safety Qualification
  • MNRE ALMM — MNRE Approved List of Models and Manufacturers
What the code requires

Modules must be design-qualified to IS 14286 / IEC 61215 and safety-qualified to IEC 61730; for most government-linked / net-metered / subsidised projects the module model must appear on the MNRE ALMM.

Tender-ready specification
Photovoltaic modules shall be type-approved to IS 14286 (aligned with IEC 61215) and safety-qualified to IEC 61730, of an approved make, and — where required by the scheme or the DISCOM — listed on the MNRE Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM).

Modules shall be supplied with manufacturer product and performance warranties and flash-test reports. Module wattage, technology (mono PERC / TOPCon, etc.) and quantity shall follow the approved system design and the available shadow-free area.

Verify before issue — ALMM applicability, module wattage/technology and quantity depend on the scheme (e.g. PM Surya Ghar — residential only), the DISCOM and the site — confirm the current ALMM List-I and scheme rules.

Inverters

  • IEC 62109 — Safety of Power Converters for use in Photovoltaic Power Systems
  • CEA Technical Standards — CEA (Technical Standards for Connectivity of the Distributed Generation Resources) Regulations, 2013 (as amended)
  • MNRE — MNRE technical specifications / approved-make requirements (where applicable)
What the code requires

Inverters must be safety-qualified to IEC 62109 and provide the grid-protection, anti-islanding and power-quality functions required by the CEA connectivity standards and the DISCOM.

Tender-ready specification
Grid-tie inverters shall be safety-qualified to IEC 62109, of an approved make, and shall comply with the CEA (Technical Standards for Connectivity of the Distributed Generation Resources) Regulations, 2013 (as amended) and the DISCOM's interconnection requirements.

Inverters shall provide anti-islanding protection, the voltage/frequency ride-through and protection settings required by the CEA standards, power-factor/quality compliance, and monitoring. Inverter sizing (DC:AC ratio), string design and MPPT allocation shall follow the approved system design.

Verify before issue — Protection settings, the DC:AC ratio and approved-make requirements are DISCOM- and scheme-specific — confirm against the CEA connectivity regulations (current edition) and the local DISCOM.

Module Mounting Structure

  • IS 875 (Part 3) — Design Loads (Other than Earthquake) for Buildings and Structures — Code of Practice — Part 3: Wind Loads
  • IS 4759 — Hot-Dip Zinc Coatings on Structural Steel and Other Allied Products
  • IEC 62548 — Photovoltaic (PV) Arrays — Design Requirements (current ed. IEC 62548-1:2023)
What the code requires

The mounting structure must be designed for the site wind (and where relevant seismic) loads per IS 875, with corrosion protection (galvanizing to IS 4759 or equivalent), and array layout per IEC 62548.

Tender-ready specification
The module mounting structure shall be designed and installed for the site wind loads per IS 875 (Part 3) — and seismic loads where applicable — with the array configured per IEC 62548.

Structure material shall be hot-dip galvanised to IS 4759 (or pre-galvanised/aluminium of equivalent durability) of an approved make, with tilt and inter-row spacing set to minimise self-shading while respecting the available roof. Roof/terrace fixing details shall protect waterproofing and be confirmed by the structural engineer for the imposed loads.

Verify before issue — Wind/seismic load case, tilt, inter-row spacing and the roof-fixing/structural adequacy are site-specific — to be confirmed by a structural engineer against IS 875 and the building's structural capacity.

Grid Connectivity & Net-Metering

  • CEA Technical Standards — CEA (Technical Standards for Connectivity of the Distributed Generation Resources) Regulations, 2013 (as amended)
  • DISCOM Net-Metering Regulations — Applicable State Electricity Regulatory Commission / DISCOM Net-Metering Regulations
  • PM Surya Ghar — PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (MNRE residential rooftop scheme — residential only), where applicable
What the code requires

Grid connection, metering (net / gross / net-billing) and the maximum sanctioned capacity are set by the State net-metering regulations and the DISCOM; subsidy/eligibility follows the applicable MNRE scheme.

Tender-ready specification
Grid connectivity, metering and net-metering shall comply with the CEA (Technical Standards for Connectivity of the Distributed Generation Resources) Regulations, 2013 (as amended) and the applicable State/DISCOM net-metering regulations, with scheme registration (e.g. PM Surya Ghar, for residential rooftops) where applicable.

The permitted system capacity shall be confirmed against the consumer's sanctioned load and the DISCOM's net-metering cap. The bi-directional/net meter, interface protection, isolation and synchronisation shall meet the CEA standards and the DISCOM interconnection requirements. All applications, feasibility approval and commissioning/inspection shall be completed with the DISCOM.

Verify before issue — The net-metering route, the permitted capacity vs sanctioned load, and scheme eligibility are State/DISCOM-specific and change frequently — verify the current DISCOM net-metering regulations and the applicable MNRE scheme rules (PM Surya Ghar is residential-only).
