A warehouse mezzanine creates a new services geometry
A mezzanine introduces a floor where the original service design may have assumed open height. Lighting, ventilation, detection, suppression and access can all be affected above and below the new structure.
Review the proposed use, occupancy, storage and structure with the relevant designers before fabrication. Establish which existing services must move and which additional provisions are required. Applicable building and fire approvals need to be checked; the availability of structural floor area does not establish permission or services suitability.
Ask the consultant for sections that show both levels and their interfaces. A plan-only review can miss obstructed equipment, lost maintenance access or altered air distribution. The owner should also understand the work needed to keep the rest of the warehouse operational during installation. The appropriate MEP scope follows from the new geometry and use, not simply from the mezzanine's square footage.
What to confirm before the next decision
- Confirm the intended use of both upper and lower areas.
- Coordinate services in section with the structural arrangement.
- Identify approvals, relocations and operating interruptions early.
Ask for this review output: Coordinated sections and a responsibility list for the altered service geometry, occupied areas, access and specialist fire review.
Discuss the consultancy scope
Send the mezzanine concept and existing warehouse services drawings. Request a multidisciplinary feasibility review. Request a scoped MEP review. Disciplines, inputs and deliverables are agreed before an appointment; installation and authority decisions are separate.

Confirm the applicable code edition with the responsible designers. Our NBC edition and draft-status guide explains why an adopted requirement and a proposed revision must be distinguished when reviewing a building change.
Background guidance: WBDG — Determine Project Performance Requirements, WBDG — High-Performance HVAC. These support the planning principles; project requirements and local applicability must be confirmed by the responsible designers.
