Honeywell Notifier Addressable Fire Alarm — AIIMS Raipur — Fire Detection & Alarm, Extra Low Voltage (ELV)

A 10-loop Honeywell Notifier addressable fire alarm system with 1,000 sensors, completed in 2018 for a central-government medical institute — delivered as the fire-safety package partner to a tier-1 infrastructure EPC.

6 project facts verified by Secured Engineers — 27 September 2026

Checked against our project record by Ankur Sharma:

  • The site: AIIMS Raipur
  • The contracting route: delivered with Punj Lloyd, who held the main contract
  • The platform: Honeywell Notifier addressable fire detection and alarm
  • A 10-loop panel
  • 1,000 addressable sensors
  • Completed in 2018

The engineering commentary below sets out how systems of this type are designed and what a building of this kind demands — our professional view, offered so you can judge the thinking behind the work.

Scope

  • Fire Detection & Alarm
  • Extra Low Voltage (ELV)
  • 10 detection loops
  • 1,000 addressable sensors
  • Honeywell Notifier platform
  • Completed 2018

Capacities delivered

  • 10-loop addressable fire alarm panel
  • 1,000 addressable sensors across the 10 loops

Engineering challenge

  • A teaching hospital cannot be emptied on an alarm. Patients in wards, ICUs and operating theatres cannot self-evacuate, so the system has to support defend-in-place and progressive horizontal evacuation — moving people into an adjacent protected compartment — rather than sounding one building-wide evacuation.
  • One building holds rooms with nothing in common: wards and corridors, diagnostic suites with sensitive equipment, kitchens and plant rooms, records stores, electrical and server rooms. Detection has to be selected per space, not per floor.
  • The fire alarm is what triggers everything else — air-handling shutdown, lift homing, door release, stair pressurisation. Those interfaces decide whether the building behaves correctly, and they are settled on paper before a single device is fitted.
  • Delivering inside a tier-1 EPC programme means the fire-alarm package lands on someone else's schedule, in someone else's shafts, alongside trades already on site.

Our solution

  • Delivered the Honeywell Notifier addressable fire detection and alarm package in collaboration with Punj Lloyd, as the specialist fire-safety partner inside their programme.
  • Addressable architecture throughout, so each of the 1,000 sensors reports individually rather than only as part of a zone.
  • The system was built on ten detection loops.
  • Worked inside the main contractor’s programme and interfaces, as a package partner rather than as the principal contractor.

Execution

  • Honeywell Notifier addressable fire detection and alarm platform

Outcome

  • Addressable fire detection and alarm delivered on a central-government medical institute, completed in 2018.
  • Delivered as fire-safety package partner to a tier-1 infrastructure EPC, on their programme and to their interfaces.
  • Device-level addressability across 1,000 sensors, so an alarm reports a specific device rather than only an area.
  • Ten detection loops across the installation.

Lessons and engineering considerations

  • Get the fire-compartment plan first. Detection zoning that does not follow the compartments cannot support horizontal evacuation, however good the detection is.
  • In a hospital the cause-and-effect matrix is the deliverable and the panel only executes it. Agree it with the fire consultant and the HVAC and electrical packages before loop design, not after — air-handling shutdown, lift homing, door release and stair pressurisation are what decide whether the building behaves correctly.
  • Loop count is not only a capacity question. It also decides how much of a building a single cable fault can take with it, which is why a hospital is rarely worth wiring as a few long loops.
  • Addressable stops being a preference and becomes a requirement the moment a building has more rooms than a response team can search during an alarm.
