Green-Rating Quick Guide
Choosing a green-rating system early lets you bank easy MEP and solar credits instead of chasing them late. This is an orientation, not the rating manual — credit weightings change by version.
- IGBC · Indian Green Building Council rating systems
- GRIHA · Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment (TERI / GRIHA Council)
- LEED · Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (USGBC)
Choosing a system
- GRIHA — India's national rating, often preferred/required for government projects.
- IGBC — widely used Indian system with many building-type variants.
- LEED — international recognition, common for global tenants/corporates.
MEP / energy measures that typically earn credits
- Energy performance better than ECBC baseline (HVAC efficiency, controls, LPD).
- Efficient lighting with daylight & occupancy controls; commissioning of building systems.
- Measurement & verification (sub-metering) of energy end-uses.
- Refrigerants with low ODP/GWP in HVAC equipment.
Water & renewable measures
- On-site renewable energy (rooftop solar) for a share of demand.
- Water-efficient fixtures, rainwater harvesting and treated-water reuse (STP).
- Heat-island reduction (cool roofs, shaded/permeable hardscape).
Verify — Credit categories and weightings differ by system and version (IGBC / GRIHA / LEED) and by building type. Confirm the target credits with an accredited green-building consultant for the chosen rating.
