Dehumidification
Dehumidification is the removal of water vapour from air, achieved by cooling air below its dew point on a coil or by desiccant systems for deep-dry applications — the latent half of air conditioning that monsoon climates make decisive.
Why it matters on an MEPF project
Comfort and product problems in the monsoon are usually humidity problems: a space can sit at setpoint temperature and still feel clammy, corrode stock, wrinkle packaging or grow mould because latent load went unhandled. Coil selection (apparatus dew point, airflow-to-capacity ratio) decides whether a system actually wrings moisture or merely chills damp air.
Oversized cooling makes it worse — big plant satisfies the thermostat quickly and shuts off before dehumidifying, the classic short-cycle clam. Where processes need genuinely dry air (pharma, seeds, lithium rooms, coating lines), refrigerant coils run out of road and desiccant wheels take over; that is an application-engineering decision, not a bigger AC.

Common mistakes
- Sizing only to temperature; monsoon comfort dies on latent.
- Oversized units that never run long enough to dry the air.
- Fresh air untreated in humid months, importing the problem continuously.
- Condensate paths ignored — the water you remove has to leave the building.
