EV Charging Load Calculator

EV Charging Load Calculator — quick estimate

Reserve electrical capacity for EV charging in parking at design stage. Enter your charger mix and a diversity factor for an instant connected-load, demand and supply estimate.

Diversity depends on user behaviour, load management and whether smart/dynamic load balancing is used. Use a conservative factor without active load management.

Assumptions & formula

Formula: connected load = Σ(charger rating × count). Diversified demand = connected load × diversity factor. Suggested supply (kVA) = demand ÷ 0.9 power factor.

  • Charger ratings assumed: AC slow 7.4 kW, AC fast 22 kW, DC fast 30 kW (entry-level; DC fast/ultra-fast spans ~30–360+ kW) — change to match the actual chargers specified.
  • Diversity factor is a planning assumption; with smart/dynamic load management the demand can be capped well below the connected load.
  • Current estimated at 415 V, 3-phase, 0.9 pf for the diversified demand.

Verify: charger ratings, diversity and load-management strategy are project-specific. Confirm the feeder, protection and the impact on transformer/DG and DISCOM sanctioned load with a licensed electrical engineer (and any EV-readiness norms in your State building byelaws).

Indicative estimate only — not a binding design. Actual load depends on charger selection, simultaneity and load-management strategy.
